2007 Season Review

Our season started at Brands Hatch on March10/11 with a MRO superteen meeting,

A best ever superteen qualifying session saw George on the front row in 4th position.

Two good 6th places on the Saturday followed by a 10th & a DNF on the sunday (leader crashed at the bottom of paddock hill taking the next 3 riders down with him). The team left Brands full of confidence knowing that we could run with the leaders.

With a months gap in our championship rounds we entered 2 club meetings, the 1st at Cadwell, qualified 3rd after crashing on lap 1 & remounting, then going on to take 4 wins in the races.

The 2nd at Darley Moor where he qualifed 5th, finished 2nd in race 1 then pulled out of race 2 with a stone wedged in the front brake caliper.

Back to MRO action on14/15th April, which clashed with the 1st round of the ACU Motostar but with 100 points available Snetterton seemed the better option.

After destroying No1 engine in Friday practice we were forced to use our No2 bike for the rest of the weekend.

A good run in qualifying saw George 2nd on the grid, our 1st Superteen silverware came in race 1 with a 3rd place followed by three 4th places over the weekend.

The following weekend we were off to Croft for round 2 of the ACU Motostar championship.

George spent free practice learning the circuit, having never been there before then missed qualifying whilst having regulation tyres fitted, so had to start from the back of the grid.

Race 1, a comfortable win, the only sports production 125 not to be lapped by the faster GP bikes.

Championship race, George caught & passed the rest of the field in lap1 then extended his lead on each lap until we slowed him down on the last lap, going on to win by 12 seconds, quite an achievement in torrential rain on standard road tyres.

Next we were at Cadwell with the Superteens, 28/29th April.

Qualified on the 2nd row in 6th position.

Race 1, after getting caught up in a start line incident, which caused the race to be red flagged, George battled all race long to come home in 3rd place.

Race 2 saw George get a good start then lead his first ever Superteen race only to be out dragged to the flag, missing out on his 1st win by 0.05 of a second.

Race 3, another good 2nd place only to be ruled out for a minor technical infringement.

Race 4, a good hard ride which saw George finish in 3rd place. All in all a good weekends racing.

Back to Brands Hatch on May 12/13th for more superteen action.

An uneventful weekend saw George qualify in 7th place and finish Saturday's races in 6th & 4th followed with two good 5th places on Sunday, keeping George up amongst the leaders on points.

26/27th May saw us make the long haul to Pembrey, again for the Superteens.

Qualified in 4th place so a front row start for each of the weekend's 4 races.

Saturday saw George take two 5th places on a dry track before the rain came, and came and came!

Two more 5th places on Sunday in weather which was more suitable for racing jet ski's than bikes.

Another long haul on 16/17th June to Lydden had George in Superteen action again,

Qualified in 3rd place to make a bad start in race 1 but fought back from 8th to finish in 4th place.

An electrical problem caused the engine to misfire in race 2 but George managed to limp home in 8th place.

With the problem sorted for Sunday's races we saw George finish 5th in race 1 and 3rd in race 2.

Next, we were at Oulton Park for two ACU championship races, the cancelled Silverstone round was to be run at Oulton.

George qualified in 3rd place behind two local Superteen riders, James Folkard & Johnny Blackshaw and followed them home in each of the races. An engine failure in qualifying saw the team changing engines in between races.

Then it was the weekend George had been looking forward to, Brands Hatch GP.

After qualifying in 5th place, five riders broke away from the pack in race 1, George crossed the line in 5th place but was awarded a 10 second penalty for a jump start.

A clutch problem in race 2 saw George finish in 7th place.

A new clutch fitted after the race & the bike was ready for Sunday's two races.

6th place in race 1 followed by a good 4th place in race 2 ensured George stayed in the top 6 on the leaderboard.

Back in ACU action on 28th July, this time at Castle Coombe, a circuit we had never been to. Friday night was spent cycling around the track, trying to learn it & work out what gearing to use.

George qualified on pole and followed it up with a win in non-championshio race, 20 seconds in front of 2nd place man. In the championship race he went on to win by 10 seconds.

Cadwell Park was the venue for the next Superteen rounds, on 11/12th August.

A Friday practice crash, in brand new leathers, had the team up doing repairs on Friday night to have the bike ready for qualifying where George put it 5th on the grid. A 6th & a 4th place on Saturday was followed up with two 4th places on Sunday.

Anglesey, another new circuit to us, was the ACU's next round on 18/19th August.

Saturday was a free practice day but torrential rain spoiled the chance of learning the fast lines.

Sunday was damp for qualifying but drying out as the session went on, another pole position!

George won both races to move to the top of the championship standings.

Mallory Park, 26/27th August, Superteens.

After qualifying 6th, George went on to score four, hard fought, 6th places over the weekend.

Then we were off to Snetterton for the penultimate ACU round,1/2nd September.

With no track time on the Saturday, the team had a relaxing day spectating and socialising.

Sunday morning saw George take another pole position during qualifying, which he converted into a championship race win.

With 'Wee Pete' Sutherland crashing out on lap 1 & Johnny Blackshaw using his spare bike without a transponder, George couldn't be caught,

CHAMPION with 1 round to go & without playing our points doubling 'Joker'.

George went on to win the support race later in the afternoon, destroying a rear tyre whilst practicing 'backing it into corners'

Snetterton, again 2 weeks later, this time with the Superteens.

Problems, after a coming together with Grant Whittaker, in qualifying had George on his worst grid position of the year, 9th.

Two hard fought races on Saturday saw George finish in 7th & 6th.

Sunday morning saw the tightest, hardest fought, race of the year. Seven riders broke free of the pack & swapped & changed places for the lead on each lap until, on the last lap it was seven abreast down the back straight, with only one line under the bridge something had to give!

Luckily, George came through the carnage that followed to finish in 3rd place.

Race 2 was a little more sedate, a change in wind direction emphasised George's size disadvantage as he was passed by smaller riders on the back straight on each lap to come home in 7th place.

Cadwell Park, 22nd September, ACU Motostar final round.

With the championship already wrapped up & with Cadwell being our local circuit, this was to be RFS Racing's party weekend.

It was a 'no pressure' weekend for George but he still put the bike on pole position & promptly went on to win both races!

A TRUE CHAMPION!

Our last meeting of 2007 was the Superteen meeting at Brands Hatch the following weekend.

9th position on the grid after a wet qualifying session, followed  by a 7th in race 1, problems with the tannoy system saw George miss the warm up lap for race 2 so was forced to set off from the back of the grid, he crossed the line in 5th position but was dropped to 12th after picking up a 10 second penalty for another jump start.

Sunday morning's race saw George record his 2nd DNF of the season when he was knocked off at Druids on lap 1, breaking two fingers in the process.

He struggled through the pain barrier to finish 9th in race 2.

All in all, not a bad season. ACU Motostar Champion & 4th in the Superteens championship.

Following the sale of our Aprilia's, RFS Racing are looking forward to a winter tesing on our Yamaha R6's & competing in 2008 in the 'Junior Superstock' class.
